Eighteen NAHSS students visit telecom giant Huawei to meet the first Chinese NAHSS partner
On the 9th of May, eighteen NAHSS delegates were invited and visited Huawei Enterprise Exposition Center in Amstelveen, the Netherlands. This offered the perfect opportunity to get to know one of the newest NAHSS partners and its technology: Huawei, the Chinese telecom giant. The group of students with a technical background was introduced to the company’s ICT solutions by means of presentations and a case study competition.
‘How did Huawei become so successful?’ is a fair question, as Huawei grew exponentially since its founding in 1987: its turnover was €27.3 billion in 2013. Huawei explains it by complimenting their committed personnel: a creative, intelligent and hard-working workforce.
The introductory presentation was followed by a short tour around the Exposition Center, where several of Huawei’s products were on display. Most of these products focus on ICT solutions. Network routers, for instance, are designed to provide internet to your smartphone, tablet or laptop. One can imagine that a router at a football stadium – hosting thousands of people – has an impossible job. Well, not anymore!
The presentations were followed by an introduction to the case competition. The cases were about networks. The group was split up in three separate groups that summarized a case that Huawei has faced and – most importantly – develop creative ideas how ICT could lead to even more benefits for the customer.
All in all, it was a very interesting day. The day was well organized, we were well received and we are looking forward to the Huawei visit in Shanghai!
